@Obiero
If you also read the whole article you will see that there is an undisclosed buyer who has acquired a stake

If a supermarket can default on a KES 10 million loan then things are thick.

This makes the situation worse.
They are complying with a labour procedure and not raising salaries to complement their staff for good results.

I make a point not to buy these Nakumatt branded (or Tuskys) goods ...these are goods of no provenance, its just a money grab by branding generic stuff and cutting out the rest of the supply chain from the factory door direct to the shelves. And they don't pass the benefits of this to the customer. The cost of these batteries is just as high as Eveready, or Duracell or Energizer for example. I understand their decision in a business sense, it just doesn't sit right with me. Its an unfair advantage over real manufacturers
Its a small, personal rebellion.

Power of branding, whether you refuse to buy it or not there is always someone who will go for the nakumatt brand regardless of the product quality. Sadly or luckily, you're a minoritysmile

Not necessarily an ineffective minority. Lots of Kenyans (esp. urban middle class who are Nakumatt's target customers) feel same as quicksand

Warren Buffett just dropped Walmart and
signaled the death of retail as we know it

Link

"It is a big, big force, and it has already disrupted plenty of people, and it will disrupt more," Buffett said at his annual shareholders' meeting in 2016, according to Bloomberg.

And the bombshell:

"Retailing is like shooting at a moving target," Buffett said at the time. "Turning around a retailer that has been slipping for a long time would be very difficult. Can you think of an example of a retailer that was successfully turned around?"

Criticism is the fuel that drives winners forward
