Kwisha Wanjiku! That is if, shares, is all she knows. NSE is about to depreciate big time. Its no-wonder Safcom shares are falling. Insider trading. Some people were already privy to the information

And here comes the remix Whistle

The Nairobi stock exchange aims to launch a derivatives market in the first half of 2019 after long delays and wants to list at least two new firms by the end of the year, executives at the Kenyan bourse said on Wednesday.

Nairobi Securities Exchange , the main entry point for foreigners seeking to invest in East Africa, has worked on plans for a derivatives market for years but has previously said it was taking longer than expected to set up the infrastructure.

“The general idea is to launch within this half of the year,” said Terrence Adembesa, the exchange’s derivatives market director, adding tests had been completed and a final request for approval to start trading had been sent to the regulator

I'm ready to short monkeys like Mumias and Uchumi all day - everyday. Laughing out loudly NSE is already a nightmare for Wanjikus and it is just about to get worse with derivatives. It will be like a bad dream for Mugundaman and the like.

Methinks stocks with liquidity will be the target for those looking to short. Like Safaricom with its 40 billion shares and thousands of shareholders. Easier to create panic in a bigger herd like that.

I don't understand the need for derivatives market if spot volumes are so poor. Example, if I have a 1 million dollar derivative position I can easily move the spot market with USD 10k trade, then doesn't that make the whole thing pointless? ELI5 wazuans
