Salaries are paid on 26th. For the first time ever, there has been a delay of 3 days and counting. This may sound benign but it is literally unprecedented. Secondly, I have heard of "restructuring" - wait for the inevitable job cuts news.

tales of a struggling economy with lowered electricity demand

Last mile was a noble idea politically but not business oriented.

Quote:
He said out of Kenya Power’s 7.1 million customer base, six million are domestic customers consuming less than 100 units or Sh200 per month worth of electricity.
“In the months of March to June, we witnessed increase in electricity consumption of five per cent of domestic customers constituting six million. This in terms of revenue is about less than 10 per cent. About 90 per cent of Kenya Power revenue is from one million customers who are heavy commercial and SMEs,” said Mr Keter.

Commercial customers are ~1 million and contribute 90% revenue.
Domestic customers are 6 million and contribute less than 10% revenue.
As someone pointed earlier the last mile project may have been "noble" (may have been political) but financially unsustainable. They should have invested more in commercial power infrastructure and used a part of the proceeds for last mile.

KP and KQ are incommensurable. KP is the only power distributor and does not have any present or foreseeable future competitor.

How do you disband entire board of a listed company? Its only through the AGM. The independent board members have resigned due to difference in who to blame for the malaise.

When i read that i knew this is a company without ideas. There are many Kenyans with great ideas to whom they should engage. Candles??? Did they do a feasibility study to realize how low sales value and volume they are. Then they want to manufacture a product for which their core business is in total conflict with. The irony!!

"With frequent blackouts, Kenyans are forced to depend on candles and what Kenya Power is trying to achieve is to eat from both ends. As long as it is dark, they want to make money from you. It is easier to sell candles than to ensure there is power all the time.”
