What happened to the public-private partnership (PPP) development of up to 140 MW of the Olkaria VI geothermal power project?

It has been a year+ since that last 4 were shortlisted. This a rerun after first tendering and the loser went to court...roughly 5 years tendering & re-tendering one thing.

Also the Menengai Geothermal wells under GDC have never been commercialized. I wonder why?. Too many well drilled and not attached to any power plant all over Olkaria & Menengai.

The public-private partnership it will be difficult to get a bidder at the current tariffs.I see at the end KENGEN will do the project on their own.

GDC should be folded and absorbed to be part of Kengen, currently they are just burning cash and increasing the country's debt burden since their wells aren't been commercialised.
They were in Olkaria, then Menengai now they are in Baringo drilling wells.

Today the market has lost massively. Minimal demand.

To calculate effective price to your cost add the brokerage fees you paid and the tax on the dividend.

Am comparing like with like. The 4 bob doesn't include all that.

can minority shareholders get a board position?

100% of board positions in parastatal NSE traded firms like KenGen are Government backed political reward positions.

I would have expected that South African pension fund owning ~7% of KenGen to at least by now have gotten KenGen board representation.

Google dictionary sees parastatals as a thing found in 'some African countries'...LOL!

parastatal
/ˌparəˈsteɪt(ə)l/
adjective
(of an organization or industry, especially in some African countries) having some political authority and serving the state indirectly.

By the way PIC should have a seat at the board of Kengen since they have attained 10% shareholding. In this case their representative should be either the CEO or Finance director or investment manager.

Electricity generating company KenGen has applied to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) for electric power generation licences for Eburru Hill Geothermal Plant.

At present, Eburru Hill has a generation capability of 2.44 megawatts (MW) and is to be a single well geothermal plant upon construction.

The plant is however set to be upgraded to 25MW while the entire Eburru geothermal field is estimated to have a potential of more than 50MW.

Half Year 2021 Highlights

The growth is mainly attributed to higher revenue receipts from drilling consultancy and operations outside Kenya.

Due to increased business activities in Ethiopia, repairs and maintenance and higher steam costs following increased dispatch from Olkaria I AU and V geothermal plants.

-Finance Costs -27% to KES.897mn
Owing to a reduction in loan balances
-Finance income increased by 22% to KES.1.009bn
The interest was earned on increased cash balances held for ongoing projects and loans whose repayment has been rescheduled as part of covid-19 relief program by financing partners.

-PBT +9% to KES.7.5bn
Income tax expense increased by 32% to KES.2.339bn from KES.1.817bn in December 2020 reflecting the impact of corporate tax reversal from 25% back to 30% and Olkaria V capital allowances all of which resulted in a lower effective tax rate of 26% in 2020.
